Speech4Good

Speech4Good by Balbus Speech is a great app for speech teachers to use while working with students. This app helps monitor, record and share speech therapy sessions. I really liked the speech graph (oscilloscope) that is included in this app. It was really neat to see the sound as it was spoken. You can also record, add notes, and playback everything which is really neat to show to others if needed and also to play back for your child to hear. I used this app with my boys who both have speech problems and they loved hearing themselves back and watching the graph as they talked. I really liked that you can email the sessions also because then I was able to send them off to their speech teachers and show them what we were working on at home. Hearing the speech sessions back my 6yr old was able to start hearing some of the mistakes he was making with words and try to correct them. He has a big problem with L, Y, and R sounds along with a few others. I was so proud of him when he started to try to fix his own mistakes while using this app. There is also a DAF available with adjustable levels included in this app too. I'm not a speech teacher just a mom so I'm not familiar with what this does. There is also a custom-built library to save and organize files, a social media integration, and as stated before the ability to email each of your sessions. I highly highly recommend this app for speech teachers to have the ability to share and review sessions :)

1st Grade Digital Workbooks- Space Board Level One Series

1st Grade Digital Workbooks- Space Board Level One Series by NeoLithix, LLC is a must have for first graders. This app has everything included for first grade level learning of Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, and Math. This app includes two bonus books of blank pages and ruled pages for additional learning. There are three categories in each learning area. Language Arts: Short Vowels, Long Vowels, and Word Families. Social Studies: Citizenship, Symbols and Mottos:Texas, and Symbols and Mottos: U.S.A. Science: Stages in Life Cycles, Living Organisms, Non-Living Objects. Math: Numbers 1-30, Numbers 31-100, and Skip Counting. There are over 450 pages in this digital workbook that works with writing. A stylus should be used to get the full benefit of this app. If you have used the younger versions of Space Boards you already know what wonderful apps these are but once you start getting into the grade levels of 1st grade and beyond you will be totally amazed by everything they include. I really like the fact that the student can check their own work by a flip of the page and see everything they have correct or wrong and can go back and erase and try again as this is not a feature that paper workbooks can offer. Children enjoy the ability to choose the color and size of mark that they will use to write with and the whole fact that it's on the iPad itself keeps them interested. My daughter uses this app to build on school skills all the time. She loves to use the iPad and it has been amazing what she can complete on the iPad that she can't on paper. We bought a very cheap stylus off of Amazon for only two cents for a pack of three plus shipping. You can find them just about anywhere and I highly suggest checking out online for them as they are much cheaper than in the stores. This app builds on the skills they teach slowly so the child can understand them well but they still have the ability to go back if skills are lost or forgotten. I highly highly highly recommend all Space Board apps especially the grade level ones for a broader selection of learning. :)

Big Nate: Comix By U! HD

Big Nate: Comix By U! HD by Night and Day Studios, Inc. is an awesome app for your child to create their own comics. Big Nate is a 6th grader that is a self-described genius and loves to create comics. You get to help Big Nate create comics using this app with great characters, cool backgrounds and a bunch of props and sounds. There is three modes of play for your child based on their level. You can create as many different comics as you would like. All the characters that are included are from the Big Nate book series that some of you may be familar with. This app wasn't for my childrens ages so I got to test it out :). I never seen the Big Nate series before using this app but I found it to be fun and enjoyable. You get to fill in the speech bubbles, get story starters, start completely from scratch and use so many cool items in your comic to make it completely all your own. There is even 5 original app comix that were created by the writter himself Lincoln Peirce. I have to say this app was a lot of fun to try out and my kids did enjoy the comics once I finished them. I may not know the characters well but still enjoyed this app. I found this app to be best used with children that are able to write stories themselves or at least make up a story for their parents to add in the bubbles. Mine are not able to read or write yet for the most part but as I said did enjoy my stories once finished. This app is great for building thought and imagination to build a story of their very own. Highly highly recommended app :)

Magikid Train

Magikid Train by Angell Echo is a fun app for children to learn colors, shapes and logic skills. This app has 53 levels and 153 puzzles. Your children will explore all these things by draging them to the train below. This is a nice app for learning patterns and discovering shapes and colors. I find this app to be fairly easy to use and best set up for the younger children (toddler to mid preschool). This app makes it fun to identify shapes from the characters above like you would in puzzle apps. This app is colorful and lively. If your child needs to learn these skills yet and has a love for trains this app may be for them. My children did not seem too excited over this app and quickly lost interest. This app has potential to be a wonderful app for some families but it just wasn't one for my family.

ComApp.2

ComApp.2 by Special Learning, Inc. is an awesome app that is wonderful for children with Autism or any other language disorder. This app helps your child express their wants and needs quickly and effectivly . This app is very colorful and has very nice pictures that are totally realistic and not cartoonish like some of the other communication apps in the market. This full version offers extensive cutomizationa and reporting functions. You can set up this app for your child any way you like. The app offers three pictures for each item so it can be based on your child so you can choose the pictures that are appriopraite for your child within the four catagories offered. The four catagories are: Food, Drinks, Clothing, and Toys. You are also able to add your own images as needed and add your own voice also. These options are wonderful if you need images that are based from your own home to make it even more familar to your child. You can also choose preset voices of 4 different options for the voice. You have the choice between 5 different themes/backgrounds to make it even more preset for your child. The picture size is adjustable also with either small or large images. The emotion icons can be set for word or phrases depending on what would work better for your child also. This app is very simple for any child to use and makes it one of the easiest on the market that I've found for a child to use. It's not a full AAC app but if you need your child to quickly and easily express their wants and needs this app is definatly for them. Highly Highly Highly recommended. Here's what my friend and partner reviewer said about this app when she used it with her 9yr old nonverbal son:

This app is fantastic for any nonverbal child or children who can't speak or know very few words. The app itself has great color the pictures are very realistic looking. You can customize to meet your childs needs..it has key points for emergency, sick, potty and ect.
Plus a great layout and easy to navagate. To find things for example food or clothes.
The child can see the picture and hear the voice. An amazing app with two thumbs up for anyone who needs to communicate.

Let's Go Chipper- Nature and Environmental Movies, Books and Activities

Let's Go Chipper- Nature and Environmental Movies, Books and Activities by It's all Good Media is a wonderful way to teach your children about environmental things. This app includes movies, coloring, activities, and more. My children enjoyed the books that were animated and read along with them. The movies were fun for them to watch and they really enjoyed the singing. This app is great for younger children to learn about enivronmental things such as reducing your carbon footprint and nature in general which is an important thing for them to start learning about at a young age and this app makes all this fun for your child. There is even ringtones for the parents in this app :). Chipper is the lead character and my children found him cute and fun. This app includes so much different activities and stories/movies that I highly highly recommend this app for a fun and educational way to learn about nature :)

@Reks apps

@Reks has a lot of really awesome learning apps. All their apps can really help our children get into spelling and math in a cute and friendly way. Their apps help by adding a friendly dinosaur frind to leed our children into a whole new way of learning things that are needed for everyday living such as adding, subtracting, spelling, time, patterns, and more. They offer apps geared toward children from preschool to about 2nd grade but even higher grade levels can learn from their spelling and math apps :)

Build A Word Express- Practice spelling and learn letter sounds and names- This app offers two modes of play: Practice and Quiz mode. There is many options with this app such as wheither or not you want upper or lower case letters, verbal or visual prompts or both, and more. This app will help your children enter the world of spelling in a fun and educational way and can be geared for your child with special needs. This app has been used with my daughter and she loved it. She is just starting to enter the world of spelling and even though she has a difficult time with this she loves this app. I can set it up so she can easily use this app and start learning how to spell different words. There is even positive reinforcement throughout the whole app to keep her interested and engaged throughout :) Highly highly recommended :)

Build A Word- Easy Spelling- Learn to Spell Sight Words, Long Vowel and Short Vowel Words- This app is a wonderful app that offers over 600+ words for your child to start learning. There is 4+ word lists for short vowels, long vowels, sight words, or you can even add your own word list. The app offers the option of practice and quiz mode and allows you to choose upper or lower case letters. The positive reinforcements in this app helps keep your child using this app over and over again for learning. There is the option of custom made features for special needs which helps gear this app towards our children. You can set it up so it's easy to focus on the letters, no time restraints, and more. Wonderful app that is highly used in our home :) Highly highly highly recommended :)

Memory Game: Letters, Numbers, Shapes and Colors- This app is perfect for all three of my children as it can be adjusted many different ways. You can have either upper or lower case letters or a mix, block or cursive letters, numbers 1-20, all different shapes, all different colors and more. You get to pick how many cards you have them use between 6, 12, and 18 cards at the same time. I love the option that this app can be used with more then one child as it offers single, two-player, or iComputer modes that make this even more fun. My oldest two love to play togeather all different kinds of games now that they started school and are starting to do so in school but they make a huge mess with common board games and don't really learn anything from them so any app that brings learning into my home with more then one child at a time is awesome and this app definatly does that. I also enjoy the X-Ray option in case your child needs to look at the cards they can do so for 5 seconds to learn their postions on the screen. Once again this is a highly highly highly recommended app :)

Memory Game: Addition and Memory Game: Subtraction- These two apps are similar to the one above but go into the higher levels of learning. They have the same options listed above of one, two, or iComputer modes which make both of these apps awesome. My children can't use these apps togeather but my daughter can still play against the computer which makes it a little more fun and interesting to her. She's all about competing to win so these apps help her do that along with learning. I loved that there is three levels of difficulty so my daughter is able to play these apps as she is just starting with adding and subtracting with only one-digit numbers. I would highly highly recommend these apps :)

Caboose- Learn to Recognize and Complete Patterns- Shapes, Colors, Letters and Numbers is a wonderful wonderful app for toddler to kindgergarten. This app works wonders with all sorts of patterns. With this app your child will learn patters with all the things listed in the title and they will continue to learn these things all through the early years of school for future math skills and other catagories. My boys love this app as it involves Reks the dinosaur pulling a train :). With this app I find that you can adjust it to your childs ability to do patterns so if your child is working on colors you can do colors or if they are in the older group and are learning letters you can work with letters in a pattern. The pattern types are wonderful since it offers so many different types such as ABAB, AABA, AABB, and so on. My daughter still even uses this app in the first grade as they still work on patterns and she has a tough time with them so I will get out this app to help show her how patterns work and to expand on her skills. I would highly highly highly recommend this app :)

All @Reks app are wonderful for all children I highly highly recommend trying at least one of them with you children to see if their apps will work for your family :)
